Journey Through the Northeast

Over the fall a friend and I took a month to travel through and explore the Northeast in my VW van. I had never spent much time in the Northeast, and really didn’t know what to expect. Little did I know that New England was going to be one of the most breathtaking adventures yet!

It’s hard to get bored on the drive North, especially during the fall.

Camping in the Green Mountains of Vermont.

Most of our time was spent in Baxter State Park and Acadia National Park, but due to a couple breakdowns, we ended spending a little more time in random New England small towns than we anticipated!

Baxter State Park is one of the most incredible places I have ever been to. Over 200,000 acres of preserved wilderness, full of pine forests, lakes, bears, and moose.

Baxter is home to Mount Katahdin, which is the northern terminus of the Appalachian trail. The hike will leave you exhausted, but the views will not soon be forgotten.

The possibilities in Baxter are endless. From renting a canoe for $1, hiking a mountain, or driving down a sketchy gravel road full of potholes to explore ice caves, it was hard to say goodbye.

Acadia National Park

Mountains, sand beaches, lakes, forests, trails; Acadia truly has it all.

The 47,390 acres Acadia has to offer won’t leave you disappointed.

Walk to the cliffs that drop 100 feet into the pounding surf, or hike up the mountains that overlook the ocean and many lighthouses that dot the coast. It’s not wonder Teddy Roosevelt was stoked on Acadia.

Taking the ferry to an island off the coast of Acadia.

Kayaking out to sea.

If you haven’t explored the Northeast, do yourself a favor, call off work, grab your tent, and hop in your car. You wont regret it!
