The original log cabin is still part of the farmstead that originated back in the 1880's. The site was a family farm until around the 1940s. Also, the land was the Eastern banks of a large logging mill lake/pond 150 yrs ago, so the shoreline slopes do not allow campers in/out of the pasture areas. A popup would be feasible with a full size 4 wheel drive utility vehicle in river bottom/shorelines. Tents /Low impact camping are best. Then it became a cattle trading/selling business location as well as a farmstead. In 2019 a transition to Animal Therapy, Fishing Therapy, and Pastured pigs from New Zealand originally were almost extinct because of their friendly nosey nature at times gets them into trouble. They graze on open pasture most of the year and rest in the sun next to a trout stream. Learn more about this land: We are a working farm with mostly rescued farm animals. Many of the animals have special needs here and live their lives as free-range animals. The river in the back is home to wonderful Brown Trout and smallmouth bass. Also at times, there will be a couple of cows grazing too. You select your location for your primitive camping experience. If any special needs for a person arise, such as cane, charcoal grill, camp lantern We keep a small shed with supplies even items like tarps, cots, sleeping bags, even fishing rods. The owner is a highly achieved angler that has been filmed for the Discover Wisconsin Television TV show. and is available for guided fishing adventures and education in the area for all species. Also, certain times of the year are excellent for wild plants and mushroom foraging. Note this is the Driftless area of Wisc. where no glaciers came through. We have bluffs and streams around every curve of the road. The Wisc. Rivers very close too and has great fishing as well. The neighbor of this farm also rents and performs livery service for kayaks, canoes on the Pine River. Very close is also an outdoor gun range. Many times of the year, fresh meats are sold right at the farm as well as homemade sausages ready for your grill..We are a working farm with mostly rescued farm animals. You like outdoors? Come here!
We booked last minute as my significant other and I were looking to get away for the weekend to fish. We read the reviews and seen the reviews about the farm animals so brought some healthy snacks for them. We caught fish, pet animals, got to see a guardian dog in action, foraged, and had an overall great time. Keep in mind this is off the grid camping in a rescued farm animal pasture. It’s on the pine river and had plenty of action and so many foragabkes. Gary was a great host and was there to help if needed. He recommended an ice cream place down the street called dairy O. It was great. He said come back with a heads up and he would love to show us some spot for fishing. We will definitely be back and put this in our must go back for camping spots. Some people said bugs but we honestly did not see many. Wear your bug spray!

New friends and northern lights!
Gary’s a wonderful host— friendly and very accommodating. The land is beautiful, exactly as pictured. The sheep, pigs, and goats all greeted me at various points during my stay. I fell asleep to the gentle hooting of an owl and woke up to a host of morning songbirds. I booked last minute, hoping to catch a glimpse of the northern lights, and was not disappointed!

Peaceful beautiful spot. My dog and I loved camping along the river and getting visited by the cows and pigs. 10/10 would recommend.

Cows, pigs, and peace
Gary was a great host. Very available in advance for questions. Also, it had rained the night before we arrived and he had a bucket of dry kindling and fire starter to help with our fire. He walked us through the property to pick a good spot to camp. We had the property to ourselves and it was very peaceful. Many birds and sunset over the creek was beautiful. My nine year old daughter loved the pigs and cows. We woke in the middle of the night to a cow looking in our tent and licking our vestibule! Do make sure you put your food in the car at night. They were great. You should know there are a lot of cow patties around as would be expected but they are easy to avoid and there was no smell. We are very happy we stayed at Gary’s property.
