Great views and super private.. Tons of space to set up. Owner was super helpful. Great rock hounding spot. Tons of space to wander and walk the dogs. Cattle walked by often. 10 mins to Wall, 1hr to Mt' Rushmore and 35 mins to Rapid City. Awesome Boondocking site.

Location + The Great Outdoors
Angela couldn't be nicer and the location is AMAZING. However, I suggest you consider yourself a pretty hearty Hip Camper to enjoy this spot.
On the positive side: It is remote and isolated. You are sure to have your privacy. You are surrounded by nature and there are no neighbors nearby.
The walk to the river is difficult, but worth it. The host is friendly and wonderful. Our dog loved roaming free.
On the possible drawbacks (depending on your tenacity): There are a lot of insects; red ants, mosquitos, flies, and ticks. There is wildlife; my dog found her very own black/white kitty to play with (AKA skunk) the very first night we were there. She also found fresh bull dung to roll in the second day. This is no fault of the host, but you should know what's possible. Angela was wonderful and brought us rags, buckets, dog shampoo and even some essential oils to help with the smell.
In the end, I would say this campsite in relative closeness to the Badlands is terrific, but you best be ready for the great outdoors and then some.

A. gravel pit
I would not recommend this site. It is a gravel pit and while private is not a beautiful site. Also, it was the most insects and mosquitoes I have experienced in many years of camping.

Convenient but only OK
The site is as advertised...in an area with a gravel pit. There are several positives. It is very private (assuming no one else is camped in the area... apparently 2 or 3 other parties COULD book into nearby sites). You will hear and likely see wild turkeys. It is convenient to the Badlands, and there aren't that many (semi-) private options for accessing the Badlands. The hostess, Angela, is very friendly. The cons...it was a gravel pit, so there are several piles of, well, gravel around, as well as a couple of garbage tips (it is a working ranch). You can get out of site of any refuse tips but not the gravel piles. So you don't really feel you are in pristine nature. Your views are riparian vegetation and gravel. Seems a little overpriced for what you get...but, again, there aren't many options so it may still be worth it, depending on your priorities.

Wilderness paradise
Such a beautiful, quiet, private place. We were the only ones there. The area is perfect for stargazing.. grasshopper galore! So cool..
The host showed us to the area and was very friendly. There is a port-a potty on the lot that you are welcome to use. Would 100% stay again

Cool rocks and epic thunder
This is an absolutely beautiful spot. I'm a rock lover and the pit was so cool. The host was kind and generous. We did happen to be there for a mosquito hatch which was epic. But so was the really cool echoing thunderstorm!
