Molalla Ripple

We had a wonderful last minute stay here in mid-August. The water lever and temperature was perfect for wading around in the sun and skipping some rocks. Pretty much had the place to ourselves.

Nice river, bad overnight stay

The river was beautiful, and the sites near the river entrance were really nice, although they were fairly close together. Our site (#1) was more secluded but downhill from the camp entrance and from some precarious-looking trees and misc. farm equipment. For the short time we were here, we really enjoyed spending the time on the water and appreciated the beautiful setting. Unfortunately, the wildfire smoke at the time and nearby highway ALL night construction noise made it difficult to enjoy the overnight stay. The noise was so loud and we unfortunately weren’t able to fall asleep to the sound of the river as we had expected, and we ultimately decided to leave in the middle of the night on our first night due to this. The host did provide a small refund, which we appreciated, although it did not even cover the cost of one full night (we booked 2 nights total) and we really did not get a written response from the host. Overall, while the river and daytime experience were enjoyable, the noise and wildfire smoke made the overnight stay disappointing, and we won't be returning to this campsite.

Gem in hipcamp

This is a gem in hipcamp, the views to the lake were so beautiful. We had the whole camp to ourselves. Got kids so they really enjoyed the site, little dusty so make sure to pack ready. The peeps were so nice and helpful. Would like to come back again! 11/10

Clean sites on the Mollala River!

Great location along the Mollala. 10 minutes after arrival we were playing in the river. Most tent sites are on the water, ours was a little more secluded (site 1), but still just a 1 min walk to the water. Porta potty's were clean, sink for washing dishes, clean camp sites, nice fire rings, friendly and very responsive host. We hope to come back with some friends. 15-20 drive to swimming holes and fishing spots. Side note: the property on the other side of the river had a dog that barked non-stop in the middle of the night for a couple hours. I'm sure that doesn't happen all the time, but you might bring earplugs just in case.

Our favorite campground!

Mollala Ripple is great! Site 4 is spacious and conveniently located near the river access and amenities. We love how intimate this campground is. The hosts are responsive and very pleasant. This is our second stay and we’re already planning our next stay here.

Great spot. Fairly private with beautiful river access. Watching the bats by the river at dusk is my favorite, and I love the occasional farm animal noises. Host was super responsive, and the available add-ons make for a very easy trip. This was our second visit, and we’ll definitely be back again.

Our stay at Molalla Ripple was exactly what we needed—a peaceful break from the city, and being just 40 minutes from Portland made it easy to get to and settle in. The clean, odor‑free restrooms were a huge bonus. We stayed in Site 4 and spent our days and nights cooking around the fire pit, enjoying family time, and bringing our chairs down to the river to relax. The site had a beautiful view, and James and his daughter were kind, welcoming, and fun to talk with. We will definitely recommend Malala Ripple and look forward to coming back.

That was an amazing HIPCAMP. Just what we were looking for, not too long of a drive from Portland and a campsite with a water view. James land is wonderful. All campsites are right on the river and just behind the row of campsites is a working farm. The river was perfect for playing/relaxing. We had an opportunity to meet James and he was very friendly and informative. We can’t wait to go back.

Overall we had a great time! The river access was 10/10 amazing. For our group, the tent site was a little dirt/dusty and not as private as I had hoped. That being said, it’s still a fun spot!

Great for kids

We had a great time tent camping here with our two kids (5 and 2.5)! The river was at a gentle flow so we could sit on the rocks in the water, and we loved that there was a paddle boat available to use. The cows made for a great kid attraction - our kids loved looking at the cow kids! It was peaceful, had what we needed (portapotties, a sink for dishes, shower available), and it was tidy and well attended. James was a great host with a speedy communication style, and we will definitely be back!

2 Molalla Ripple Site 2

It's so nice to find a private campsite where people are considerate and friendly, and the place is well-maintained. The river was fun with our paddle boards and dogs too! There's plenty of riverfront to go up and down or just take a slow float down. We really enjoyed our stay and will return. It was great being able to watch our granddaughter perform at the rodeo over the weekend, and it's just a few minutes up the highway. We will be back!

Field Three worked great for our large group! The river access was perfect for kids and adults, there were shallow areas for the kids to explore, and deeper areas to swim in. We loved how responsive Jim was when we added on the convenience of ice bags from right on site or had other questions. Things to know: you'll need to bring shade for the midday sun and the tables are plastic, so you'll need a heat-safe surface for your camp stove.

This is our third time staying at Molalla Ripple and we are going again in late August. The place has new improvements every time we stay here. The host, James, is great! Super friendly and it’s clear he really cares about providing a nice space for campers to enjoy. He’s clearly putting money and labor back into the experience to make it better each time. The sites are close together but they have plenty of privacy and they’re right on the river. It’s amazing waking up to the sound of the river running by. You can fish right from your site. There’s a communal kitchen area with a working sink which is a great bonus. Doing dishes while camping is always a pain but this makes it way easier. I could go on and on but you get the idea. It’s an amazing place. Just book it already!

We were tent camping at Molalla Ripple, and had a great couple nights in July. It was so nice to have river access and the showers were enjoyed by a few people in our group. There were a few visits from calves that added some sweetness to our time. The hosts were so welcoming, thank you for letting us stay with y'all!

Our trip to Molalla Ripple was unforgettable! The campsite was gorgeous and the river was so peaceful. The campsite and bathrooms were so clean and enjoyable. We loved swimming and soaking up the sunshine. We were so impressed by the amount of amenities involved! Our friends had never stayed at a HipCamp and this camp definitely set the bar high! Thank you James so much for an incredible stay!

This is one of my favorite places to stay. It's right on the river, so peaceful, fantastic sites, and so many thoughtful amenities. The host is so kind and does a great job making sure you have everything you need. We loved camping here, and can't recommend it enough.

Loved our group camp site at Molalla River rock! We had 4 tents and each had our own little area with our cars. James was super responsive and present and you can tell how much he loves and cares for this beautiful slice of heaven. Our sites were 2&3 and were right by the river. They were also right next to the cleanest port a potties and shelter that had a sink, outlets, covering awning and picnic tables! We enjoyed making dinner and sitting on the little deck that looks off to the river. We had a really great time! James even brought our kids a s’mores kit which was so kind and thoughtful. We would definitely come back here again! Oh, and we all raved about the string lights. Overall a 10/10 trip!
