Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Ascension Ranch is an off-grid paradise with a unique and ever growing list of features and activities. Family owned and operated, we want to be that breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life that everyone needs. With a serene environment, a healthy mix of farm animals, and good old fashion ranch activities, there's a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy. Some of the things you'll come across at Ascension Ranch include baby farm animals, sheep, goats, cattle, horses, ranch dogs, chickens, equestrian activities, hiking, biking, camping, archery, lake activities, amazing views, access to endless trails around Folsom Lake, grass-fed meats, fresh produce and of course, good company. Staying on the ranch can be as social, or as rural as guests choose. Camp alone, or bring others, whether it be your 4-legged companions or friends and family, we welcome all campers who respect and enjoy the great outdoors as much as we do.

Hold your HORSES!
We loved our stay with the horses, falling asleep as they grazed nearby was magical and my daughter was overjoyed we got to pet them and be so close. Hosts were super helpful and everything went smoothly, we’d definitely recommend!

I do not recommend
We were so excited about our trip, but left a night early due to several factors. We live in the Sacramento area and the drive over was still 2 hours long. There is only one road to this location near Folsom lake, so please keep this in mind. We have two small dogs that we brought with us since the camp said dogs are welcome. We kept our dogs leashed, since that was a rule listed in the description, however when we arrived we were greeted with very large, unleashed dogs. Due to their size and the fact that our dogs were leashed and they were not, that led our dogs to get agitated and scared. The campsite was the main reason for the negative experience. It was full of horse poop, large thorny weeds (picnic table was FULL of them, rendering it unusable), and excessive amount of mosquitos. We both got eaten alive despite the copious amounts of bug spray that we had on. When it came to nightfall, the horses are not kept in a barn. They came right next to our tent, which made our dogs bark. The barking did not deter the horses… so the barking was non stop while we were trying to sleep. There is only one porta potty on the property, which was far away from our camp site. We tried driving there (a suggestion from the owner), which caused our car to get stuck in a ditch in the mud. There are no lights or clear pathway to the bathroom at night. Because of these reasons, we won’t be back and unfortunately do not recommend.

Heavenly Meadow Stay
Absolutely beautiful location, absolutely delightful hosts, who were ready to assist at every turn. Horses and dogs came to greet us and checked in frequently during our stay in the Meadow. We loved the trail to the lake and the abundance of spring flowers. This is truly a hidden gem. We will be back!

Peaceful camping with animals!
The campsite was idyllic when we went in mid March. The pictures don’t do it justice. The horses were a beautiful part of the setting and didn’t bother us all, the dogs were a highlight and super sweet with our kids. We went on the most beautiful walk to the lake from our site. Our host Fawad was very kind and gave us nice suggestions for our kids to explore. We were so thankful for Rick’s generous assistance pulling our camper up a hill we were unequipped to handle in our not - 4WD SUV during slippery conditions. The bathrooms were clean and adequate, just a few minute walk away. The quick and friendly welcome, support when needed and clear communication couldn’t have been better. We hope to come back in the late fall or next spring.

Camping with free roaming animals!
This property is so beautiful and gave us the perfect last minute getaway to take advantage of warm weather! 60 minutes from Granite Bay/Folsom. Tent camping in huge grassy meadows with friendly horses roaming freely and 2 dogs that quite literally were the most remarkably sweet and protective you could ask for! Chickens and goats were also fun for a little visit. Sites are great size and plenty of land in between so you definitely have just enough privacy. Trail that can take you right down to Folsom Lake, or you can keep going on the trail around the lake for what seems like miles, very popular for mountain bikers! Met the ranch owner the first day, super cool human and clearly very connected to his ranch and the folks helping out with it. Overall, this will absolutely be our go-to spot when we want to get away from it all……and visit our new animal friends!!
