This property boasts three exquisite cascading waterfalls, hiking trails, 4×4 roads, hunting, rock climbing, and stargazing opportunities. With proximity to Shaver Lake, and China Peak Ski Resort, you are just minutes from any outdoor activity imaginable. Including but not limited to; hiking, water and snow skiing, fishing, boating, star gazing and sooo much more. The road into the property, although being maintained by us and the community, can be a challenge for vehicles very low to the ground. There is water, and trash and a composting outhouse on site. My husband and I stay here on site as much as the weather permits, to serve out heaping amounts of privacy, or hospitality. It's up to you. Please explore everywhere. Be sure to check out all 3 waterfalls, and Shaver Lake. Don't stay gone too long, though, as just about every night, there is an unforgettable sunset and sounds and smells of the Sierra Nevada. The experience is supernatural. There is powerful medicine here. It's undeniable. The weather is very mild most of the year, where a sweat shirt is perfect most nights and not too hot in the day We have kayaks available for use free of charge. Musick Creek Falls offers an affordable option, whereas campgrounds and cabins in the area are often booked up and very expensive. Most cell phones have good reception throughout the property. We also have spare tents and camping gear, blankets etc. if you forget something. Please be courteous to our neighbors, as the Golden rule is the law of the land. We appreciate your support more than you know, and we thrilled to share this amazing place with our Hipcamp community. Potato Hill Group

Located in the historic Whitlock Mining district north of the town of Mariposa. The district is east of the Mother Lode gold belt and includes the Colorado, Sherlock Creek, and Whiskey Flat areas. The area was placer-mined soon after the beginning of the gold rush, and lode mining began shortly afterward. A number of mines were active here during the 1930s, and a few, such as the Diltz and Schroeder mines, have been intermittently prospected in recent years. Placer and Lode mining began in 1849. 49er's Lafayette Bunnell, Champlin Spencer, Thomas Whitlock and John Sherlock and a monte dealer from Quartzburg have all been credited with being the sole discoverer of the rich gold deposits. Over 70 lode mines such as the Buffalo Champion 2, Colorado, Diltz, Geary, Golden Key, King Solomon, Landrum, Nutmeg, Our Chance, Permit, Schroeder, Spread Eagle and Whitlock have been recorded in the district since the 1850's. With several of them operating stamp mills, including a 20 stamp battery at the Whitlock Mine, post offices opened in the towns of Colorado in 1858 and Whitlock in 1899. It is reported up to 5,000 settlers occupied the area, including Potato Hill. The name derived from the potato crops planted on it's slopes. Iy is, however, rumored the name came from gold nuggets the size of a potato. The mining towns of Whitlock, Colorado, and Sherlock no longer exists. Minutes from the Merced River Recreation Area, 34 miles (53 minutes) to Yosemite and 12 miles to the Historic town of Mariposa.

RV camping near Bass Lake guide

Overview

Just 17 miles from the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park, the small community of Bass Lake is a great option for an RV stay, especially for those who didn’t snag a coveted camping spot in the park. The lake is about an hour north of Fresno and offers swimming, fishing, kayaking, water-skiing, and boat rentals, as well as a boat launch if you’re towing your own. The hiking trails of Sierra National Forest are nearby, as is the family-favorite Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad. Around the lake are a couple of RV parks, at least one of which offers full hookups, a pool, and laundry. Campgrounds dot the lakeshore, but just a few allow small RVs only and not usually with hookups. More RV sites can be found along Highway 41. Bass Lake is busiest in the hot, dry summer. Consider spring or fall for a quieter atmosphere before the chilly, wet winter.
