We recently spent three nights at ‘The Forest’ Hipcamp near Nunamara and couldn’t have asked for a better off-grid escape. This is the perfect spot for campers wanting a truly private, bush camping base all to themselves, ideal for exploring both the north and east from Launceston, as well as the beautiful close surrounds like Lilydale Falls and The Tunnel.
It’s far enough from the city to properly switch off and enjoy a restful break, yet still close enough to Nunamara or Lilydale for fuel or groceries when needed. The balance between seclusion and convenience is spot on.
Our 18-foot off-grid caravan fit comfortably on the site, with plenty of space and a real sense of being immersed in the forest.
Host Hamish was incredibly obliging. He welcomed us warmly, made sure we were settled in and happy with our site, and then respectfully left us to enjoy the peace and privacy of the camp.
We would absolutely encourage other campers to stay here and support a young man creating a great, low-cost camping option that truly delivers on the promise of off-grid bush camping. We’d happily return.

Such a great little spot. Perfectly tucked away amongst the gum trees; Hamish was super helpful (as was his neighbour when I needed a little pull off the rock he told me not to drive on). We’ll most certainly be back, a brilliant spot for anyone camping on their own too, close enough to help if you ever needed it, but can’t see or hear a soul for miles.

Almost didn't want to write this review as this place is too good and I'd rather keep it a secret! But in the spirit of fairness (and because the host absolutely deserves the praise), here it is: the land is stunning, the campsites are spacious and well thought-out, and I found Hamish to be super helpful, friendly, and laidback in the best way. One of those rare spots you stumble on and immediately want to return to, which is exactly what we did by extending our stay an extra night. Will definitely be back (if it's not completely booked out by that point!).

We stayed for three nights in the bush camp. The forest is an apt description for this Hipcamp?
Hamish is a perfect host. He had cleared some of the virgin scrub amongst the tall timbers. So that we could set up our camp.
My 25 foot motorhome had no problem with the terrain
Hamish had already provisioned our fireplace with plenty of timber
We love this Hipcamp and look forward to coming back

If you are into bush camping then this is a great place to spend some time.
At the moment there’s only 1 suitable spot for a caravan and it’s well worth it. Great hosts with a warm helpful welcoming. Plenty of wildlife and snakes as expected at this time of year but no bother as Hamish had a nice large area well cleared. Sheltered all round from the high winds we had.

My boys camped here while attending V8 supercars on a wet and windy weekend, but listening to the rain on the tent and wind through the trees was great.

Hamish is a legend - Maps took me down the wrong track (my own fault, not even on his land), got myself bogged with no recovery gear so he came out and got me unstuck and even had a pre-stacked fire ready to go at my site when I got there. Would recommend anyone to stay here.

The Forrest is such a beautiful pace with abundant bird life and the odd pademelons coming past at night. We arrived to see Hamish and he said “Find A Spot!”. We had some caravan troubles and Hamish helped us out. A very welcome and friendly stay at the forest. Thanks again Hamish!

We love this site which is surrounded with nature. We couldn't camp at the dam site because of road construction. The second site is a bit closer to the highway which was sometimes a little noisy during the day but nothing was too crazy. But when the sun started to set, everything was quiet except the sounds of nature and animals/insects, which were lovely. The host was very welcoming and prepared the site with a great fire pit and lots of wood and stuff. We had great time and will definitely come back when we have a chance.

Absolutely fantastic spot to get away! We went along with a bunch of scouts and enjoyed that we could “get back to the basics” of scouting without needing ModCons. We had a visit from the owner which was great checking in to see we were all good and didn’t need anything while camping. We met his dog too who was super friendly! We will absolutely be back highly recommend this place! Made me miss my hometown big time! Do it!! You know you want to! Get back to basics and camp in The Forest!

Hamish made us feel super welcome (and responded very quickly on our late booking)! Even though it was only one night the amazing location and the well prepared fire made us feel at home and when we're back in Tasmania we would book again!

Hamish is a fantastic host, couldn't do enough for us. Fire was set up ready to go. Plenty of firewood.
His property is great for quiet bush camping. We came for 2 nights ended up staying a week. Well placed for visiting nearby attractions. With all the work Hamish is doing this property will only get better.

Great camp. Very quiet and right in the bush. Hamish was so helpful and really made us feel safe and at home. The site was flat and Hamish is slowly clearing sites for people to come and share his piece of paradise with him.

Beautiful place, a bit on the wild side but we loved it for that. The path demands for a good AWD/4WD but the privacy of the spot makes it worth it for a relaxing time out in the forest. Thank you to Hamish, the host for being so approachable and helpful.

Great genuine bush camp. The site had a firepit which Hamish had stacked with wood ready for us on arrival. Hamish was always
