Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Rivers Edge is 24 acres of forest on the banks of the Leven River in Gunns Plains, Tasmania. We are in our own little valley surrounded by tall forests. Preston Creek flows all year through our property and meets the large Leven River where your campsite is situated. Perfect for trout fishing, platypus watching, bird watching or catching the sun setting through the trees on the river bend. There are even the endangered black fresh water crayfish. The site is large enough for up to 5-6 caravans for large bookings, and we only take one booking at a time, so its exclusively yours. We are only 20km to the nearest town, Ulverstone which as everything you need. The road is close by the campsite with easy access to find the property. No toilet facilities at the site. Sat TV is good and limited mobile reception. Telstra works best we've found. River access over a rocky, uneven embankment as it's a natural, untouched environment, just how we and the native animals like it. Campfires ONLY PERMITTED when fire restrictions aren't in place. You absolutely must make sure your campfire is fully extinguished before you leave. Please check "My Trips" (in your profile) for directions once confirmed. Look for the 'Rivers Edge' sign on the entrance gate, then you know youve got the right site and not the neigbours property (which is along side mine on the river) Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept with you at all times, no roaming dogs as the road is close by and we are a working hobby farm with animals. We love the peace and serenity here so please no unruly behaviour or parties.Welcome to your own beautiful riverfront camp. Wild and rocky natural river edge, great for climbing over rocks; you'll loose hours just beach-combing, fishing (ultimate fishing spot..) or kayaking (tip: wear wetsuit booties) Your spot is on the river side with own access gate, (we live across the road) close to the road which is lightly screened by trees, easy access on gravel crossover. Area is a wild grassed paddock (not manicured and has weeds) with small trees, gently slopes down with access to the river. Spotted with young Blackwood and wattle trees. Great views on the river bend watching the sun set down the river valley though the tall forest. Platypus spotting dawn/dusk. Perfect trout fishing, canoeing and swimming spot. Watch the kayaks sweep past when the conditions are sweet. Fire pit available to use in season when there's no fire-ban. The entire few acres on the river banks are divided between our property and the neighbours. There is a wire fence dividing so make sure you set up on the right property! Look for the gate off the road with "Rivers Edge" sign on it. Camping/RV/caravans ONLY, no toilets on site- but public toilets are 2km down road. 20km to Ulverstone which has great cafes, pubs supermarkets etc. And just down the road is Wings Wildlife park (great cafe) and the awesome Gunns Plains Caves, both worth a visit.

A beautiful weekend away.
Amazing spot right next to the river. Our own private space to enjoy the scenery and beautiful flowing water. We caught fish and enjoyed sporting wildlife at night. Such a picturesque spot and great to be able to take the dogs. Will definitely be back.

Camping in Autumn - so quiet!
Camping at Rivers Edge was amazing. It was so close to the river. Camping in April meant it's Autumn so sadly we didn't run into any animals and the water in the river was really cold. The place was absolutely amazing though. There were no other campers so we had the whole place to ourselves. Very quiet and dark at night which meant we could clearly see the stars and moon. Great getaway from the city

Rivers Edge
Lovely sloping campsite right by the Leven river. Very peaceful and amazing stars at night should you get a clear night. We did unfortunately have hundreds of European wasps lingering around on both days we stayed which was annoying. Obviously a nest in the area needs dealing with. The gate is heavy to open too - needs fixing so it doesn't drag on the ground.

Outstanding
Outstanding location, as noted on a bend of the Leven River, quite and beautiful. Plenty of room for a few Vans or like us great privacy with one. Easy distance to the must-see Leven Canyon lookout trail and Leven Canyon Floor Track (outstanding) both easy walks, then call into Kaydale Lodge and gardens for a cuppa and scone/cake and walk around gardens, we will be back.
