Sundar Camping

4 sites · RVs, Tents50 acres · Walmer, VIC
We have 4 sites to offer at Sundar Goldfields Camping. Our 50 acre property features undulating bushland with views of farmlands, wetlands and distant mountains. The name is Hindu for "beautiful". Our rammed earth home sits in the middle of the property and our camping sites are located between our house and the road into the property. We are situated halfway between Maldon and Castlemaine with easy access to both these two interesting towns that attract many tourists to the region. Campers are required to be self sufficient with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. The individual sites are called Billabong View (green signs), Wetlands View (blue signs), Mountain View (red signs) and we have recently added Gully View. It is unlikely you will hear other guests as there is a good distance between sites. The largest site is Mountain View and can accommodate the most number of guests and is well suited to caravans. Billabong view is probably not suitable during Winter (or heavy rain periods) as it is located in a dip and therefore damp if we have a lot of rain. Billabong View is closest to the road, therefore, the least private. Wetlands View has 3 different sites that all overlook the large dam and birdlife that requent the wetlands. Gully View is secluded and surrounded by bushland. It does not have water views and it's entrance is located 60m from the front gate, on the right side of our road into the property. Kangaroos and cockatoos are regular visitors to our property. Bird life is abundant and we sometimes see Echidnas and Shingleback lizards. It is a peaceful area and close to the steam train track so the train can be heard in the distance on the days that the Victorian Goldfields Railway service runs. There are great walks from the property towards the Maldon-Castlemaine rail trail. We supply firewood, if required, and camp fires are allowed at certain times of the year. Reg has great knowledge about our native animals/birds plus gold prospecting and is available to chat if you what to hear his yarns. Simply let us know and he will visit whilst you are camping. He also offers tuition on gold prospecting.

Symphony Farm

2 sites · RVs, Tents35 acres · Raglan, VIC
Symphony Farm is located in an elevated valley, where we have extensive views of mountains, plentiful bushland and rolling pastures. Located just outside of Beaufort at the gateway to the Pyrenees and The Grampians. The property is 35 acres with 8 acres of bushland to explore and only a short drive from more bush walks, horse trails and the quaint town of Beaufort. We are a permaculture farm in the beginning stages of regeneration with new projects and animals continuously becoming integrated all the time. No two visits will be the same! Park your caravan at the top of the hill or pitch a secluded tent in the grassy glades between the trees. One of our goals here at the property is to provide a place for weary souls to feel rejuvenated in the presence of nature. During your stay we will be working on the farm. We are happy to share the process of what we are doing but we also respect your space and need for seclusion. Feel free to be as hidden or as friendly as you need to be!

The best camping near Kara Kara National Park guide

Overview

About

Embark on an adventure through Kara Kara National Park, a treasure trove of Box-Ironbark vegetation and a sanctuary for native wildlife. Traverse the park's diverse trails on foot, mountain bike, or by four-wheel drive, and witness the vibrant birdlife that adorns the canopy. As dusk falls, settle in at one of the serene campgrounds, where the sounds of the bush become your lullaby.

Notable campgrounds

  • The Upper Teddington Reservoir offers a tranquil camping experience amid towering eucalypts and abundant birdlife.
  • Teddington Campgrounds provide a rustic escape, complete with facilities and the historic Teddington Hut nearby.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early to secure your spot at the popular Upper Teddington Reservoir, especially during peak seasons.
  • Visit mid-week for a better chance at snagging a campsite, as weekends tend to fill up quickly.
  • Keep an eye on the park's official website for updates on campsite availability and potential cancellations.
  • Explore nearby camping options if your preferred site is booked, as the surrounding area offers additional choices.

When to go

The best time to visit Kara Kara National Park is during spring, when wildflowers burst into colour and the weather is mild. Summer brings heat and requires caution due to fire danger, while autumn and winter offer cooler, yet equally enchanting, opportunities for exploration.

Know before you go

  • Check fire danger forecasts before your visit, as the park may close on days of Catastrophic Fire Danger.
  • Be prepared for no mobile reception in the campground areas, ensuring you have all necessary information beforehand.
  • Accessibility facilities are available, making the park's wonders open to all adventurers.
  • Remember to bring your own drinking water and firewood, as these are not provided at the campgrounds.
  • Respect the park's wildlife by keeping a safe distance and not feeding the animals.
