Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Ascension Ranch is an off-grid paradise with a unique and ever growing list of features and activities. Family owned and operated, we want to be that breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life that everyone needs. With a serene environment, a healthy mix of farm animals, and good old fashion ranch activities, there's a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy. Some of the things you'll come across at Ascension Ranch include baby farm animals, sheep, goats, cattle, horses, ranch dogs, chickens, equestrian activities, hiking, biking, camping, archery, lake activities, amazing views, access to endless trails around Folsom Lake, grass-fed meats, fresh produce and of course, good company. Staying on the ranch can be as social, or as rural as guests choose. Camp alone, or bring others, whether it be your 4-legged companions or friends and family, we welcome all campers who respect and enjoy the great outdoors as much as we do.

Meadow View
Great property with helpful people and ranch dogs onsite. The meadows site was a great spot with easy access to the Darrington Trail on Folsom Lake through the gate nearby.

Camping with horses
My family and I had a great time. It was so cool seeing horses roam around camp and visited by super sweet dogs that are big as horses. The lake was a short walk away with tons of huge fish to catch. Beautiful views a very nice and private campsite. Just beware of ticks in the tall grass and bring a remover and repellent.

Eagles Nest
beautiful views from Eagle's Nest, and a nice walk down to the lake. The big dog who visited our campsite was extremely gentle with our young girls. Not sure when we'll make it back out here, but if we ever do, we'll come back.

Hold your HORSES!
We loved our stay with the horses, falling asleep as they grazed nearby was magical and my daughter was overjoyed we got to pet them and be so close. Hosts were super helpful and everything went smoothly, we’d definitely recommend!

I do not recommend
We were so excited about our trip, but left a night early due to several factors. We live in the Sacramento area and the drive over was still 2 hours long. There is only one road to this location near Folsom lake, so please keep this in mind. We have two small dogs that we brought with us since the camp said dogs are welcome. We kept our dogs leashed, since that was a rule listed in the description, however when we arrived we were greeted with very large, unleashed dogs. Due to their size and the fact that our dogs were leashed and they were not, that led our dogs to get agitated and scared. The campsite was the main reason for the negative experience. It was full of horse poop, large thorny weeds (picnic table was FULL of them, rendering it unusable), and excessive amount of mosquitos. We both got eaten alive despite the copious amounts of bug spray that we had on. When it came to nightfall, the horses are not kept in a barn. They came right next to our tent, which made our dogs bark. The barking did not deter the horses… so the barking was non stop while we were trying to sleep. There is only one porta potty on the property, which was far away from our camp site. We tried driving there (a suggestion from the owner), which caused our car to get stuck in a ditch in the mud. There are no lights or clear pathway to the bathroom at night. Because of these reasons, we won’t be back and unfortunately do not recommend.

Heavenly Meadow Stay
Absolutely beautiful location, absolutely delightful hosts, who were ready to assist at every turn. Horses and dogs came to greet us and checked in frequently during our stay in the Meadow. We loved the trail to the lake and the abundance of spring flowers. This is truly a hidden gem. We will be back!
