The River's Edge campsites sit on the shoreline of the Delaware River at the western edge of New York State overlooking the mountains of Pennsylvania. Our canvas tents and open air platforms perch between the river and the former Delaware & Hudson Canal which was once was used to transport raw goods by barge to New York City via the 'port' of Port Jervis. The remnants of the canal walls are throughout the property including a 300 person theater which we created to both preserve and feature this industrial history. It also makes a great place for an event or a movie night. Today, the original canal towpath, along which barges would be pulled and floated downstream, is a trail that links all of the campsites over 5 acres and at the furthest end an eel fishing camp that is in operation from June to October (say 'hi' to Jim). In the early 1900s, the train replaced the canal as the primary method of moving goods into New York and if you are lucky — you will hear the train rumble by along the river on the Pennsylvania side. There is something spectacular in the absolute still and grandness of the river, the mountains and the ongoing industrial history of the valley. It is a reminder of the way things used to be.

River's Edge on the Canal

Book this trip!!

If you are looking at this review wondering whether you should book this trip - DO IT!! This must be one of the best spots I have ever camped. The setting is stunning, the sites are well-equipped, and you will be looked after very well by your host. This trip was some of our group's first time ever camping, and they are now converts. We didn't want to leave! Enjoy.

The Lagoon

Perfect, rainproof by the river

This is a very nice spot! It is private. You can see the other campers down the road from you but you barely hear them at all throughout the night. The site is also rain proof. You can hang out under the shelter to have dinner, and then go into your bedroom shelter if the rain is really bad. The firepit and close access to the water was extra special as well. We saw several bald eagles and a handful of rafters / tubers.

Camping to the sound of waterfall

The drive there from central Jersey was serene and epic! EPIC being the main word for everything. Great secluded off road. Beautifully set up with all the amenities. Our host asked us if we needed anything more. Left extra firewood for us to use. All in all a pleasant experience. My wife’s first time and it was one of the best experiences for her. Eagle watching from the comfort of our cabin porch. Highly recommended

River's Edge on the Canal

Great location with the most awesome view possible. Just getting there was an enjoyable trip, with all the scenic views and ample parking to be able to enjoy such. For all the bird lovers, you're just in luck and make sure to bring your binoculars. Right across the Delaware river, there's a clear view of a pair of bald eagles and their massive nest. On arrival I came 2 hrs after check in time but the spot was just as promised and even I would say even better. Near the road but still private enough. The camp spot was real clean and very well organized. Thomas even threw in the gas grill for free and I'm very grateful for the thoughtfulness that he put on his campers. I will highly recommend booking from Thomas and will most definitely be back for a future trip with a larger group. Too many things to do around there but had so little time. Last but not least. Unless you have Verizon or skylink, be prepared to have an enjoyable quiet time without a care in the world. Lol

This space was amazing, Thomas was such a generous host and our group had an incredible time. He graciously let us stay the afternoon since he had no booking that day, and we got to spend more quality time together by the river. We are dying to return already :)
