The Oak Grove Communal Camp
Animal Encounters and Scenic Views
Our recent family camping trip to Splitrock Retreat in Fallbrook, CA, was an absolute delight, particularly for my daughters, aged 7 and 6. The standout feature of the retreat was undoubtedly Ben's land. The sprawling space was expansive enough and safe for kids but was also thrilling for them, especially with the presence of friendly animals. My girls spent most of their time joyfully interacting with the goats, sheep, alpaca, and big white dogs, which seemed to be a highlight for them.
The scenic beauty of the area was another plus. The retreat offers some spectacular views that made our stay visually pleasing. Additionally, there are several charming little areas around the retreat that were perfect for family roaming and exploration, adding a sense of adventure to our trip.
The communal area at the retreat was well-maintained and welcoming. It served as a great spot for us to relax and interact with other campers. The cleanliness of the communal space was noteworthy, contributing positively to our overall experience. Similarly, the bathrooms were kept in excellent condition, which is always a concern when camping but was handled perfectly here.
While the communal spots were great, we are also looking forward to booking a private spot next time. The idea of having our own little secluded area is appealing, as it would provide a more intimate experience for our family. Bonus it's only 1 hour away from our house in Carlsbad making the trek all the easier.

The Oak Grove Communal Camp
Not bad for a quick stay.
I live in Oceanside and this place was 30 minutes from my house. Nice quick camping spot to get out of the city. Spaces are not marked so we had to drive around a few times to find a spot. Nice and quit campsite. There are snails like the other reviews said. I would recommend for a quick night or two.

The Oak Grove Communal Camp
Great area. Very secluded and lots of big rocks for kids to climb on. Ground can be uneven in a number of spots but just seek out a flat area. Fires only allowed in the 3 common area fire pits. Nice to have some facilities close by (bathroom and sink).

Redtail Rock
Local hidden gem
Living less than an hour away, we had no idea how hilly and green this location was! We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed walking the grounds with our dog, riding our bikes on the dirt roads and visiting the very friendly animals. Bring binoculars and don't skip the overlook. The views are amazing!
