The Milky Way Cabin

1 site · Lodging2 acres · Florissant, CO
Glamping, but better! Indulge in the charm of a custom-built tiny house nestled against a grove of Aspens. This 100% solar-powered and self-sustaining retreat is situated on 2 acres, accessible via a scenic 13-mile drive on dirt roads off Hwy 24. Let's talk about the water situation. We do NOT have a well. Your stay comes with one 5 gallon jug of water. You can use it to drink, fill up the sink to wash dishes, etc. We bring our water every time. There is a water fill up station in Florissant right next to the fire station. It costs $1 for 20 gallons. Empty jugs are in the shed as well as the hose you will need at the filling station. You are welcome to bring your own 5 gallon jugs and put water in the tank under the sink. This would run the shower, the kitchen and bathroom sink. FYI the tank holds around 50 gallons. Keep in mind, the shower uses 1.75 gallons per minute. Kids over 12 accepted with caution. There is a propane heater mounted on the wall with an open flame. The wood burning stove has a flu strait up through the ceiling. Be warned, it gets hot. There are two lofts. One has a queen bed and the other has two twin mattresses made of foam that fold in to chairs. Bring sleeping bags if you plan on sleeping in the loft! The beds are comfortable. The kitchen table is flat against the wall and folds down when needed. Turn and pull out the lever on top release the table. This place is brand new and we haven't worked out ideal seating yet. There is a stool under the stairs and the box in the corner was designed to be used as a seat/ottoman. It also has extra sheets and blankets inside. There is a space to pitch a large tent if you're hosting a retreat a hundred feet from the cabin. We carved out a big circle in the front of the cabin (the observatory). We are working on designing the space but for now it's just a big circle of dirt. Lay out a blanket and bring binoculars or use our telescope (available in the summer only and located in the shed) and stargaze! Lots of things to do including hiking, paddle boarding, fishing in the summer at 11 Mile Reservoir. Go snow shoeing, rent a Polaris in Woodland Park, and snow mobiling in Buena Vista. Eleven Mile Reservoir is just a few minutes away by car. Detailed arrival and departure instructions will be sent to you via email a few days before your stay on how to use the unique systems in the cabin. Note: during the months of November through May, the cabin is dry with no running water.
